A Successful Second PPP Workshop Concludes in Argentina

April 11, 2014: GSEP's second conference of its Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for Sustainable Electricity Development Program successfully concluded in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Organized in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and Argentina's Ministry of Energy from April 10-11th, the workshop stimulated discussions on the lessons learned and current best practices that can promote the scaling up of successful PPP projects in the region. GSEP presented its projects in Galapagos, Argentina, and Uruguay, sharing proven business models and concrete development and implementation strategies. Through the discussions, participants were able to identify the main drivers and obstacles to replicating renewable energy PPP projects in the region.

Mr. Daniel Cámeron, Secretary of Energy of Argentina, highlighted the importance of initiatives that foster successful renewable energy development, such as this GSEP program, remarking that "for us, it is highly satisfactory to have this workshop here. It addresses the key issues of the sector and improves the learning curve by sharing the best practices from projects realized in Latin America".

The workshop brought together 50 participants from countries in the region, including national and international project developers and experts, government and power sector delegates, financing institutions and electrification development community representatives.
